Blurb:
He’s come to kill me.
I’m a user and abuser of my own body. In the darkest hour I sold my soul to the devil and now I must pay the price. With his gun to my head I have no choice but to listen and obey, but I refuse to go down easily. Nothing is stronger than the will to survive. My instincts kicked into full gear the second he stepped into my motel room.
Except when I look at him I see my own heart staring back at me. A history tainted by blood.
I don’t know his name, but I know he wants me. To save myself I’ll sacrifice my sanity. My body. My soul. Something tells me the x-shaped scar that marks his eye is the only escape I have. He is Mr. X; the man who comes to claim my life. Can I save myself before he demands my heart?

WARNING: This book contains very disturbing situations, strong language, drugs and alcohol, and graphic violence.

There was a ton of hype surrounding the release of Mr. X and I had very high expectations for this book. In some ways in delivered, the story was unique and engaging and the characters each had certain qualities I liked but at the same time, there were things about the book that just didn't do it for me. The way the story was written made it difficult to really connect. I felt like I was 'reading' the story rather than experiencing it. Also, while there were some character aspects I liked, neither character had many redeeming qualities. You want to like Mr. X because his story is tragic and you want to fix him but he just keeps being a bastard and not in an out of love sort of way. Jay starts out as a stripper and drug addict who turns into X's personal captive and play thing. The story is dark and twisted and at times I'm engaged but I also found myself skimming a lot. The plot was somewhat predictable and the ending wasn't as satisfying as I would have hoped. If you're a fan of the dark side of lust mixed with hatred and revenge then this could be for you but I don't think it really did it for me this time around.

Title: Masters of Seduction 1-4
Authors: Lara Adrian, Donna Grant, Laura Wright, and Alexandra Ivy
Release Date: July 14, 2014
Pages: 360

Summer 2014 is going to sizzle with the launch of a sexy new series from four of the hottest authors in paranormal romance!

Surrender to sinful pleasures and forbidden passions with Masters of Seduction, the sizzling new paranormal romance novella series from New York Times and internationally bestselling authors Lara Adrian, Donna Grant, Laura Wright and Alexandra Ivy

In the realm of the Incubi Masters, pleasure is to die for and love is the deadliest game of all...

Be sure to add this great read on GOODREADS

Merciless: House of Gravori ~ by Lara Adrian

Seeking vengeance for the murder of his brother, Incubus Master Devlin Gravori demands justice from the high court of the Nephilim. But fury and retribution are no match for the consuming desire he feels for Nahiri, the beautiful Nephilim warrior he claims as his hostage.
Soulless: House of Romerac ~ by Donna Grant

Incubus Master Canaan Romerac is focused solely on revenge against those who betrayed him and put him in the Oubliette for five hundred years. That is until he sets eyes on Rayna. Can the beautiful Nephilim heal Canaan’s wounded soul before it’s too late?

Shameless: House of Vipera ~ by Laura Wright

Sexy Incubus Master Scarus Vipera has grown weak, and the only thing that will strengthen him again is Rosamund, the power-rich female of the Harem. But the mysterious Nephilim is determined to leave the Harem untouched, her heart intact.

Ruthless: House of Xanthe ~ by Alexandra Ivy

Jian, Master of the House Xanthe, has devoted his life to returning his family to their former prominence. When he’s offered a contract to hunt down the missing Sovereign, he’s eager to accept. The last thing he expects is to encounter a stunningly beautiful angel who stirs more than his lust.

This four part series of novellas is sizzling hot and perfect for summer. Right away I was swept off my feet and whisked into the deliciously dark and dangerously seductive world of the Incubus'. Masters of Seduction is skillfully crafted to curl your toes and get you all hot and bothered. I was surprised by how involved I got in each novella given how short each story was. Rather than feeling like I was missing something which is often the case when I read a novella, each story was a sweet ride that slowly built upon the story before. Lara Adrian starts us off with Merciless and let me tell you, I would not mind one bit being at Devlin Gravori's mercy! Each male lead has qualities that capture your heart. Devlin is vicious yet captivating, Canaan is vengeful yet compassionate, Scarus is a barbarian yet affectionate, and Jian is driven yet caring. Each man steals your heart and refuses to give it back!

I'm not sure what is in store for the Incubus House Masters but war is brewing and things are sure to get much hotter. I cannot wait to see what these four talented ladies have in store for us next. An absolute must read for paranormal lovers.

Early Review: Magic Breaks by Ilona Andrews

Tuesday, July 22, 2014 with
Title: Magic Breaks
Series: Kate Daniels #7
Author: Ilona Andrews
Release Date: July 29, 2014
Publisher: Ace
Length: 400pgs

No matter how much the paranormal politics of Atlanta change, one thing always remains the same: if there’s trouble, Kate Daniels will be in the middle of it…

As the mate of the Beast Lord, Curran, former mercenary Kate Daniels has more responsibilities than it seems possible to juggle. Not only is she still struggling to keep her investigative business afloat, she must now deal with the affairs of the pack, including preparing her people for attack from Roland, a cruel ancient being with god-like powers. Since Kate’s connection to Roland has come out into the open, no one is safe—especially those closest to Kate.

As Roland’s long shadow looms ever nearer, Kate is called to attend the Conclave, a gathering of the leaders from the various supernatural factions in Atlanta. When one of the Masters of the Dead is found murdered there, apparently at the hands of a shapeshifter, Kate is given only twenty-four hours to hunt down the killer. And this time, if she fails, she’ll find herself embroiled in a war which could destroy everything she holds dear…

Praise for the Kate Daniels novels:

“One of the brightest voices in urban fantasy, and one of my favorite authors. Ilona Andrews delivers only the best.”—New York Times bestselling author Jeaniene Frost

“Vividly imagined fight scenes, clever use of obscure mythology, a uniquely interesting setting, and rich characterization make this a rare treat.”—Publishers Weekly

Magic Breaks was everything I didn't know I wanted in a Kate Daniels book and more. Magic Breaks is so unlike Magic Rises and while I loved Magic Rises more that I can possible express, I'm not sure that I could have gone through that kind of emotional trauma again, and yes, I do mean trauma. Magic Rises made me hurt! You know that ache in your chest when you get a phone call and are told someone in your family died...yea it was that kind of feeling. Magic Rises put me through the ringer and Magic Breaks slowly put the pieces of my heart back together for Kate and Curran. Kate has sacrificed so much for the pack. She has leaked blood, sweat, and tears for them and in Magic Breaks, her bonds with the people she has fought so hard to protect are tested when the truth behind her relationship to Roland goes public.

Roland is just as sinister and power hungry as we have always been led to believe, but there are layers to him that make him much more interesting than I'd thought he would be.  Watching the moment that Kate and Roland meet unfold was exciting beyond belief and while Hugh is still a sick bastard with a superiority complex, for some reason I still like the guy. Andrews really knows how to pen the enemy and make you love what a complete bastard they are.

Magic Breaks without a doubt is a must read for 2014 and while it can be read as a standalone, you're sorely missing out if you bypass books 1-6. The Kate Daniels series continues to be my all time favorite series out there all the way through book 7. Andrews does not disappoint.

lona Andrews is the pseudonym for a husband-and-wife writing team. author2smIlona is a native-born Russian and Gordon is a former communications sergeant in the U.S. Army. Contrary to popular belief, Gordon was never an intelligence officer with a license to kill, and Ilona was never the mysterious Russian spy who seduced him. They met in college, in English Composition 101, where Ilona got a better grade. (Gordon is still sore about that.)
Gordon and Ilona currently reside in Texas with their two children, and many dogs and cats. They have co-authored two series, the bestselling urban fantasy of Kate Daniels and romantic urban fantasy of The Edge.

Favorite books with covers I would never be caught in public with

So I am actually a HUGE fan of Lora Leigh and her Breeds series. If you've seen her recent covers, they're fairly typical of any PNR series. You have a shirtless guy and some reference to an animal since they're "breeds" and all that jazz but all in all, the covers really aren't anything to be ashamed of...right?

Well, then we look back at Leigh's earlier breed covers. I actually happen to own books one and two in print version but I would NEVER take these bad boys out in public. Book one is probably my all time favorite in the series but the cover, Gah...I wonder what my mother would say?

Any covers on books you love that you wouldn't be caught in public with? Let me know in the comments below and don't forget to check out the rest of the CST crew along with our guest blogger! Woot Woot!

Review: Taut by JA Huss

Thursday, July 17, 2014 with
Title: Taut
Author: JA Huss
Series: Rook and Ronin
Release: January 18, 2014

Buy Your Copy on Amazon: Taut

Blurb: Ford Aston is known for many things. Being an emotionless, messed up bastard, a freakishly smart social outcast, and a cold, domineering master who keeps "pets" instead of girlfriends.

And after Rook broke his heart, he plans to keep it that way.

Ashleigh is known for nothing, and that's exactly what she's got going for her. She's broke, stranded in the mountains with a three month old baby, and Ford Aston is screwing with her head.

Big. Time. And she plans to mess with his right back.

It's a coy game at first, filled with flirting, and innuendo--but Ford soon realizes something is not quite right with Ashleigh. In fact, something is seriously, seriously wrong and the closer they get to their final destination, the closer Ford gets to the truth.

One night of devastation, self-loathing, and emptiness turns into the best thing that ever happened to Ford Aston. But one day of in-your-face reality threatens Ashleigh's whole existence.

Taut takes you on an adventure of of devastation and self-discovering. Both Ford and Ashleigh are lost in their own way. Both are trying to recover from a heartache that they fear has no return but in each other they find a chance at happiness and a chance to be part of something more. Part of a team, part of a family. Taut was well written and had a great story arc. My only issues with the book were the extreme amount of F-bombs. I'm never one to shy away from swearing but in Taut it was excessive and at times pulled me from the story. Also, I felt like Ford was written with almost a woman's voice. He had a lot of internal monologue that droned on and made him sound whiney which made it difficult to really get in his head and relate to his character. Ashleigh on the the other hand was written really well and I really enjoyed her characterization. All in all, the book is worth reading, just not a favorite of mine. BTW...the sex scenes were pretty great!

JA Huss is the USA Today best-selling author of the Rook and Ronin series, the epic science fiction I Am Just Junco series, and hundreds of kid-friendly science books in subjects such as biology, physics, anatomy and physiology, astronomy, and forensics. She has an undergraduate degree in equine science and a master's degree in forensic toxicology. She has never taken a creative writing class and she hopes she never will.

"Six vampires could depopulate Atlanta in a week. Six vampires piloted by navigators would do it in three days. A vampire telepathically guided by the navigator was a precious instrument with the destruction potential os a small nuclear bomb.
