You know my name, but you don’t know my story …

After being schooled in magic by Merlin and promised a kingdom, Morgana is robbed of her birthright and betrayed by everyone she has ever trusted. Risking everything for revenge, Morgana uses her magical arts to trap Merlin, threaten her half-brother King Arthur, and turn away the only man she will ever love. In destroying King Arthur and Camelot, Morgana sets into motion a catastrophe that can only be reversed if she can learn from the past in time to protect our future … and so fulfill an ancient prophecy.

In the tradition of The Mists of Avalon comes a new story of Morgan le Fay, one of the most enigmatic and reviled characters in Arthurian legend.

I really really wanted to like this book. I love Arthurian legend and was so excited to get this story from Morgana's perspective. I was hoping that this would be much like the recently released movie Malificent where were learned that she wasn't as horrible as we all believed her to be and grew to love her character. Unfortunately, I Morgana, just didn't grab my attention. I pushed, I really truly did but the writing was hard to get through and there was a lot of monologue. It drove me crazy. I finished it but I'll admit that I did a lot of skimming. I kept waiting for it to get better but there was no real substance to it. The characters were poorly written and all of the characters we had grown up loving were portrayed as weaklings, or snobs/brats and very few characters in the book had any redeeming qualities. Its hard to enjoy a book when you hate everyone in it.

I grew up (a long time ago!) in a small bush town in Africa. No TV, iPods, computer games and surfing the internet – you could say I had a very deprived childhood! Not so. Instead, for entertainment I learned to read. Books became my windows to the world: they told me about dragons and fairies and magic. They told me about other countries and other cultures. They told me about myself. And I have never stopped reading, because I love stories.

I guess I always did things back to front – the hard way! In Africa, when I ran out of books to read, I wrote my own. I love writing stories, but I never thought about it as a grownup occupation. As a grownup, I had to go back to school to find out that I really was a writer. After doing the HSC at the age of 40, I went on to do a BA (Communications) degree at UTS. My major was creative writing, and suddenly I found myself experimenting with all sorts of genres and, in particular, writing the sorts of stories that I love to read – crime and timeslip fantasy back into the past

Review: Shifter's Claim Part I

Shifter's Claim by A.C. Arthur
Release Date: July 8, 2014
Pages: 80
GOODREADS

Sebastian "Bas" Perry acknowledges there is something physical drawing him to Priya Drake, the inquisitive reporter. She is strong and tenacious and unpredictable, as he soon learns when she follows him to his resort in Sedona.
Priya Drake knows what her assignment is, all she has to do is pull it off without getting caught. Desperation pushes her further than she ever imagined and suddenly she realizes she just might be in over her head when she comes face to face with the alluring shapeshifter Sebastian "Bas" Perry once again, in Shifter’s Claim Part I, from The Shadow Shifters series by A.C. Arthur

So I was a little confused in the beginning, I felt like the prologue was slow to start and I could have done without it. The chemistry was HOT and the attraction was pretty intense between Priya and Bas but things moved a little too fast for me and it made the story unrealistic and while I realize that shifters in general are not 'real,' the fast connection between Priya and Bas just seemed unrealistic. I felt like a lot was left out that could have been expanded upon and while I am hopeful that the next installment will answer my many questions and further develop the story, installment one just didn't really do it for me. It wasn't bad. The writing was good, the story had substance, it just wasn't really for me and I found myself struggling to finish the book which is usually not an issue for me with any PNR book.

Welcome to Coffee Shop Talks!!! Inspired from Giselle at Xpresso Reads's meme Book Girls Don't Cry...They Vent, every Monday I will be getting together with Traci (Mad Hatter Reads) and Misty (Addicted 2 Heroines), and we're going to talk, vent, gush, and advise about different bookish related topics, so grab your cup of joe because we all need coffee in the morning, have a seat and join the conversation.

Print ARCS, I'm actually behind on one of them. I received Mortal Dangers by Ann Aguirre from Tigris Eden, an author whom I work for as an author assistant. In my defense, it was gifted to me since she picked it up at RT so I didn't actually request it from the publisher but I am really excited about it and I've heard great things about it so I'm eager to read and will do as soon as I get caught up on my R2R list. I'm currently devouring The Beautiful Ashes by Jeaniene Frost...Its wonderful so far! And next up will be The Young Elites. I got it in the mail last week and it was a pleasant surprise from the publisher as I hadn't been expecting it.

From Netgalley

What ARCs have you recently received? Be sure to let me know in the comments below ^_^

Reticulum by Marta Salek

Sunday, August 17, 2014 with
Cover Feature
Today I am so excited to share the cover for Marta Salek's upcoming debut novel RETICULUM. This NA Fantasy read is epically amazing. I have read it, worked on it it, loved it to death, and thing you will to!
Be sure to add this one on your GR shelf! Releasing next month!!!

Title: Reticulum
Author: Marta Salek
Genre: NA Fantasy
Release Date: September 2014

Matthew's life has one focus: magic. Pleasure, for him, is achieving the unachievable, learning that which has never been understood before. The Reticulum is a dream come true—a magic that promises him everything. With it whispering in his mind, what other companion does he need?

Andrea is determined to take on the world and her talent is such that she might just succeed. But an apprenticeship with an unscrupulous wizard shatters her self-confidence, leaving her friendless and alone.

When the two meet, they learn that isolation is not inevitable, after all. That being able to break the laws of the universe means little if there's no one to break them for. That when you allow yourself to need, and trust, and love, you can take on anything.

Marta lives out in the hills of Australia with her partner and assorted fluffy roosters, chickens, sheep, alpacas and one dog (who may or may not have fleas). When not working or writing, she passes the time trying to grow vegetables and running over irrigation pipe with her ride-on mower. In a past life, she spent her days programming (or screaming at) computers and writing lengthy emails which were reported to give her managers headaches. Now, she’s more gainfully occupied as a nurse, which legitimately allows her to amuse herself by asking people about their bowel habits.

I'm also currently organizing a blog tour for Reticulum, if you'd like to participate, go to http://coffeeandcharactersservices.blogspot.com/
and if you're interested in reviewing, drop me a line, even if you can't take part in the tour ^_^

Stacking the Shelves

Saturday, August 16, 2014 with
It has been so so long since I have participated in a Stacking the Shelves post but I am so excited to jump in this weekend! There are a few books that I'm leaving out of my haul because Monday's Coffee Shop Talks topic discussing recent ARC books so this weeks haul will not feature any ARC books.

First up is Uriel's Fall by Loralie Hall. I received this book to review via the author and...she sent me a 2nd copy *signed* to give away on my blog so be on the look out next month when I'll be posting my review and giving the book away along with some swag!
***
So from time to time I find books on sale and decide to buy them not realizing that I already own it. I knew I had already read it but had assumed I'd gotten it from the library and didn't own my own copy. Well now I have 2 so once again, giveaway to come soon so look out if you're a Lara Adrian fan!

Last but not least. I ordered Masters of Seduction and Marked by Midnight during Lara's virtual signing so I have these tow signed copies and I'm obsessed! There is just something about the book being signed that makes it more special and....I read both books for review (eARCs) before I bought them LOL. I can't help myself, I needed the physical books

What books are stacking your shelves this week? Also if you decide to be rad and follow me via Bloglovin, let me know so I can follow you back!!
